WHAT IS STEM EDUCATION?

STEM education combines the academic disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM integrates the four disciplines into a cohesive learning model rather than teach them separately. This helps students explore the unique applications and see where they connect.

Through the First Green program, we want to increase participation because interest in STEM careers is not increasing while the job market is. We believe if kids can have fun and relate these fields to activities they enjoy, there will be more be more enthusiasm for each subject.

GET INVOLVED

Parents will play a large role in guiding their kids towards STEM related interests. Outside of the classroom, you will be the driving force to help them in their studies and direct their focus on either science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

A great way to stay connected with the GCSAA and First Green program is to follow up with the golf club or course where your son or daughter had a workshop. The golf course superintendents will be happy to share the lesson plans and answer any questions you may have.

Here are a few ways parents can get involved and stay involved:

  1. Volunteer to chaperone a field trip
  2. Reinforce lessons after the workshop
  3. Visit a local golf course
  4. Communicate with teacher on STEM learning
  5. Play golf
