COVID-19 hit the United States hard this Spring. Our lives were all impacted in unprecedented ways due to the virus and ensuing pandemic. First Green field trips were not immune. The bulk of First Green field trips involve publics schools in the months of March, April and May. When schools went to virtual platforms and large gatherings were prohibited  to ensure the public’s health the 2020 First Green Spring Season ended before it had a chance to begin. The safety and well-being of the children, teachers and golf course staff are always top of mind.

What is next? As the timeline for  returning “back to normal” continues to evolve, GCSAA encourages golf course superintendents and teachers/administrators to stay in touch. As school districts determine what the 2020/2021 school year will look like – First Green is evolving as well. The First Green Task Group will meet in June to help with this project. Look for more online resources and lesson plans to support STEM learning. The field trips will remain the fun, interactive experience they have always been – with new recommendations on social distancing measures.
